Alignment Healthcare, a population health management company that focuses on improving the health and wellness of seniors, is now a sponsor of the American Diabetes Association (ADA)'s Stop Diabetes® movement, which aims to reduce health disparities and improve education and diabetes prevention in minority communities.

“Because education is the first step in type 2 diabetes prevention, we are proud to partner with the American Diabetes Association’s Stop Diabetes® movement,” said Dawn Maroney, chief growth and marketing officer of Alignment Healthcare. “Diabetes opens the door to many preventable chronic illnesses, and through our partnership with the ADA, we’re working to increase awareness by providing our communities with the tools to put the brakes on the disease.”

In the United States, nearly 30 million children and adults are living with diabetes and another 86 million have prediabetes, which indicates that they are at high risk for developing type 2 diabetes. Because minority populations are disproportionately affected by diabetes, increasing awareness, education and access to care are key to the prevention and management of type 2 diabetes.

“Diabetes is a national health care crisis, with someone diagnosed every 23 seconds, every day. Strong national and community partnerships are essential for us to help reduce the rapidly rising incidence of diabetes,” said American Diabetes Association Vice President of Lifestyle Management, Alicia H. McAuliffe-Fogarty, PhD, CPsychol. “By partnering with organizations such as Alignment Healthcare, we are able to reach communities to engage them in our Stop Diabetes® movement. As part of this campaign, we ask everyone to encourage a friend or loved one to join them in the most effective ways to prevent diabetes—regular physical activity and a healthy diet. Change starts with support and accountability, and together, we can Stop Diabetes®.”

The ADA offers numerous resources to help people manage and prevent diabetes. From the Living with Type 2 Diabetes program to the Association’s Signature Events, including Step Out Walk to Stop Diabetes and Tour de Cure, there are many programs and activities available offering valuable support and motivation for those living with or are at risk for developing diabetes.
